History

Nigel's passion for vehicle dynamics, electronics, and sensors began during his time at university, where he helped design and build an open-wheeled race car from the ground up. Being a member of the globally-ranked #1 Formula SAE team demanded excellence and innovation, whilst managing budget constraints and limited access to resources compared to larger teams in Europe and America. Pushing the boundaries of engineering within constraints is continues to shape Nigel’s approach today.

History - UWAM.jpg

After graduating, Nigel worked in train dynamics for a year before moving into UAV electronics, where he spent another four years. When redundancy provided an unexpected opportunity, he transitioned to something he had long been interested in — solving the complex challenge of suspension tuning for his mountain bike. At the time, suspension tuning was an elusive art with little guidance available for riders seeking optimal bike performance. Recognising the importance of personalised setups, especially in mountain biking where the rider’s mass and inputs are crucial to the bike’s performance, Nigel applied his expertise in vehicle dynamics and electronics to develop a solution.

In 2013, Nigel founded Dusty Dynamics to bring his technology to market, helping mountain bikers achieve a more precise, customised ride.

After years of dedicated research, prototyping, and testing, Nigel developed ShockWiz—an automated suspension setup tool for mountain bikes, and something that had never before been seen in any vehicle. To validate demand, Nigel launched a Kickstarter campaign, which quickly proved successful, with 500 units sold in just 30 days.

Within months, SRAM acquired the intellectual property for ShockWiz. Nigel was retained to lead the development of hardware, software, and the app under the Quarq brand. In 2017, ShockWiz was awarded PinkBike’s Accessory of the Year and rapidly became the dominant suspension setup tool in the mountain biking industry.

Since then, Nigel has collaborated with numerous companies in the off-road industry, both locally and internationally, further expanding his expertise.
